Austin Health is a major tertiary/quaternary hospital in north-east Melbourne, with over 600 acute and sub-acute beds. Additionally, it provides state-wide services in support of liver transplantation, Spinal cord injury and long-term ventilatory support.
The Austin has been providing ECMO in support of cardiac surgery since the early 2000’s and has recently undergone a re-development aligning the service with the current state-wide ECMO initiative.
The Austin ECMO Service currently has 30 ECMO credentialled nursing and medical staff, capable of providing initiation of ECMO, and, in collaboration with the VECMOS model, 24-hour care and support for these critically ill patients.
