Caring for critically ill people throughout Victoria who have reversible acute lung and heart failure.

The Victorian ECMO Service (VECMOS)  is a state-wide collaboration of hospitals and ambulance service that provides ECMO for critically ill people.

Patients & families

Families and loved ones play incredibly important roles helping patients during and after ECMO treatment. Read more about visiting ICU and what to expect before and after ECMO.

Health professionals

Used to treat the sickest patients, ECMO gives temporary life-support for critically ill patients with severe forms of acute respiratory and cardiac failure, when other intensive care therapies cannot keep a patient alive.

Health services

The Victorian ECMO Service (VECMOS) commenced in early 2020 after an extensive planning and consultation period commissioned by the Victorian Department of Health, through Safer Care Victoria
